But, even people from the other part of Indonesia can easily find rendang with authentic taste at Padang restaurant.

How to Make Beef Rendang with Authentic Recipe

Being one of the world’s best food, you might be tempted to taste this cuisine. Good news, you don’t necessarily need to fly to West Sumatera. With the many recipes available on the internet, it is pretty easy to make an authentic rendang by yourself. All you need to do is following the recipe and you will have the world’s best food in your kitchen.

But you shouldn’t overlook this dish. As with other Indonesian traditional dishes, the cooking process can be very complicated and involve a lot of ingredients. If you live in a four-season country, it may be a little difficult to find the herbs and spices. In a supermarket, you can jump to Asian section to find the needed herbs and spices.

To make sure your rendang is successful, you should pay a careful attention during the ingredients selection and the cooking process. Therefore, the following tips help you make rendang just the way the local people make it.

1. Choose the right chili

There are many varieties of chili and each variety comes with different sizes and hotness level. The best chili for rendang is the local Serrano chili. So, make sure to buy this kind of chili and use the required amount as mentioned in the ingredients.

You may need to remove the pith and seed in order to reduce the hotness level. But if you are not a spicy-lover, you can reduce the amount of chili as desired.

2. Chop the galangal

You are going to use galangal in the recipe. Actually, the galangal will be blended with other ingredients in a food processor. But, many people fail to blend the galangal as they don’t cut them into small sizes or chop it. Therefore, to make sure the galangal blend perfectly with other ingredients, you need to chop or cut them into small pieces.

Aside from making it easier for the processor to blend the galangal, it also increases the flavor. Besides, you don’t want to eat a chunk of galangal while enjoying the rendang. For this reason, make sure you blend the galangal until you see a spice paste.

3. Cut the beef in the right size

Don’t think that smaller size of beef can make it easier to cook. Cut the beef just in the right size, no smaller than 4 cm unless you want it to shrink into smaller pieces during the cooking process. On the other hand, you are not suggested to cut the beef in large size as it will elongate the cooking process. Not to mention the herbs and spices will not be well-absorbed to the deepest layer.

Now that you know the cooking tips, it’s time to get to know the authentic recipe of Indonesia’s rendang. Prepare your note and be ready to jot down the recipe. Be sure to follow the step by step cooking instructions.
